It’s About Time…And Timing

TruWeather combines commonly used government data with propriety data, along with ground transportation sector experience, to produce meaningful and actionable weather impact and water behavior insight at a granular scale. Our analysis and visualization solutions put you in control to pro-actively mitigate, prepare, respond and recover from expected, or unexpected weather and impacts at the neighborhood, town, city or state scale. You will have the tools to communicate timely information with your team and community, without misinterpretation, to act faster and more precisely than ever before. The TruWeather Team can help advise and build a solution for your transportation needs to improve safety and reliability, reduce congestion, and enhance your jurisdictions transportation system performance.

Case In Point

In the last several years, as transportation systems become increasingly more congested, and events of surprise ice, snow, dense fog and fire smoke have cause well-documented and numerous, deadly, multi-car pile-ups in Wyoming, Michigan, Maryland, North Carolina and Florida.  Similar type incidents have stranded motorists in Upstate New York and Pennsylvania.  A contributing cause of these deadly and dangerous mishaps was a lack of specificity around the intensity and location of relatively localized ice, snow, fog and smoke hazards, and difficulty in notifying cars and trucks of impending dangerous roads on particular road segments.

On a larger scale, we witnessed the 2014 Atlanta, Georgia “Snowmageddon” and Washington DC’s 2011 “Carmageddon” that caused major cities to experience historic gridlock.  “Carmageddon” was a well-forecast, but powerful short-lived storm on Jan. 26, 2011 over Washington D.C. that dropped five inches of snow in a short time span before the evening rush hour. The federal government’s early release coincided with heaviest amounts of snow.  The evening rush hour timing and the weather created the perfect scenario for historic gridlock.  Many drivers were stranded in vehicles until the following morning on roads like the George Washington Parkway.

With each of these events, the impacts to individuals, families, and businesses were tremendous, and yet in many cases, somewhat avoidable with more precise weather impact knowledge, better communication systems and better decisions tools.  TruWeather Solutions has the scientific know-how and operational experience to help transportation system leaders and decision-makers reduce road weather incidences and weather induced economic impacts.  With our partners, TruWeather delivers end-to-end transportation business solutions with more precise, consistent and actionable weather risk intelligence.

Assessment

Anyone can give you a one-size-fits all “transportation” weather package that looks impressive on a tablet or mobile phone.  Unfortunately, you cannot always judge a weather image by it’s cover because the real test is whether the content is accurate, precise and fit for your purpose and needs.

TruWeather understands the cost of weather and water behavior on a transportation system is serious business.  We also know 20-60 percent of weather’s impact and cost is preventable with a fit-for-purpose weather solution that is meaningful and actionable, easily communicated and consistently acted upon across an organization.

TruWeather Solutions provides comprehensive, one-stop-shop services that can drive better decisions and outcomes to keep the jurisdiction safe, secure and operating efficiently at bridges, tunnels, road networks, airports, marine ports and waterways.

At TruWeather, we believe an assessment is important to uncover the true costs and impact of weather on your agency and citizens, and set the stage for weather risk management and execution improvements.

Client Transportation System Weather Program Assessment: Our weather, marine and operations experts (marine expertise is provided by our partner MetOcean Solutions) will conduct a deep analysis of weather and marine pain points, client operations, workflows, and methods for making weather risk decisions.

The assessment report includes:

  • Baseline assessment of how weather impacts people, equipment, infrastructure, and work streams
  • Information on how weather information flows across all levels of an organization and is acted upon
  • Specific weather pain points for your organization
  • Identification of what events cause the most disruption
  • Provide knowledge about potential processes and capabilities you can develop and/or acquire to improve the accuracy, precision and use of weather and water intelligence
  • Outlines specific weather and marine data sources for making decisions
  • Provides a framework to ensure streamline and effective weather knowledge communication at all levels of the organization
  • Ensures consistent processes and actions across the organization for various weather and water events, expected or unexpected
  • Provides recommendations for customized thresholds, by function and work flow, alerting codes and custom messaging to optimize safety and productivity

Transportation System Weather and Water Mitigation, Preparation, Response and Recovery Playbook:  This service takes the results of the assessment and works with the organization to build a Weather Risk Management document that can drive management and worker protocols in dealing with various weather risks at different phases of the event.

  • Outlines specific authorized weather and marine data sources for making decisions
  • Provides a framework to ensure streamline and effective weather knowledge communication at all levels of the organization
  • Ensures consistent processes and actions across the organization for various weather and water events, expected or unexpected
  • Drives customized thresholds, by function and work flow, alerting codes and custom messaging
